Beginning January 3, 2017, Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works will no longer accept plastic bags as a container for grass clippings, leaves, Christmas trees, and other yard waste materials set out for curbside collection. After the new require-ments are implemented, residents will have three choices when setting out yard waste for collection:
Crofton Village Garden Club members Diane Gallow, Project Chair Marie Bryer and Barbara Emden create floral arrangements with flowers donated by Trader Joe's at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena. The arrangements are distributed to hospice patients throughout Anne Arundel County. Marie will have a sign up sheet at the January meeting. All members are encouraged to participate in this project.
CVGC held a special holiday celebration at the Blue Dolphin Seafood Bar and Grill. Members and guests enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch followed by a festive holiday musical performance by the award winning Chesapeake Harmony Chorus, a Chapter of Sweet Adelines International. A silent auction fundraiser and 50/50 raffle was also held. All proceeds from the silent auction and raffle will benefit ongoing projects and programs of the club.
HAMMOND-HARWOOD HOUSECVGC members Debbie Nicholson, Tish Smith, Sue Hoge, Diane Harvey and Marie Bryer decorated for the holidays the upstairs study chamber at the Hammond-Harwood House in Annapolis. The theme this year was "At Home with the Harwoods – An 1835 Christmas". Members placed antique textile, including a quilt, rag doll, knitted Christmas stocking and girls muff around the room. Faux greens and red berries beautifully decorate the mantle. On the hearth are an antique copper coal shuttle filled with pine cones, faux table top trees with plaid bows, ice skates and a sled topped with a gorgeous basket arrangement of greens and berries created by Tish Smith. Tours will be given through December 31 during regular hours of the museum with museum admission. This special tour takes visitors back to the early 19th century when the Harwoods lived in the home. The tour will highlight Christmas customs and how each was observed during the holiday season. STATE CIRCLECVGC joins with other District II garden clubs annually to decorate State Circle with fresh evergreen wreaths. Members Glenna Kidd and JoAnn Cook made the wreaths and delivered them for the club.
CVGC members decorated for the holidays a number of venues within the community. Beautiful live greens and festive red bows adorn several public schools, the Crofton Library, the Village Green, and the main entrance to the Crofton community.
