Crofton Village Garden Club members Margo Antonelli, Trish Demers, Paulette and Paul Heward, and Diane Smith create fresh floral arrangements for hospice patients at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena. Hospice nursing staff, clergy, social workers and volunteers deliver the arrangements to patients in their home or care facility throughout the Anne Arundel County area. Flowers are donated by Trader Joe's in Annapolis for this weekly project.
Crofton Village Garden Club chooses a local charitable organization, military unit deployed overseas, if possible, or any entity within the neighboring Crofton communities needing assistance during the holiday season.
Project Chair Linda Childs announced the recipient of this year's Operation Christmas donation will again be the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. Donations are down this year, yet the need is just as great. If you would like to donate, the address is: Anne Arundel County Food Bank P.O. 650 Crownsville, MD 21032 Led by Project Chair CJ Salisbury, Crofton Village Garden Club members decorate for the holidays a number of venues within the community. Beautiful live greens with festive red bows adorn several public schools, Crofton Library, the Village Green and Town Hall.
Thank you to CJ and her husband Palmer for hanging the wreaths at the Village Green, to Carol Buhr for attaching the bows and assisting in hanging the wreaths, to Margo Antonelli, Diane Gallow, Jane McClanahan and Angela Silverstein for delivering wreaths to the schools, the library and Town Hall. Project Chair Jane McClanahan oversees the installation of four Yoshimo cherry trees, marking the completion of a pledge Crofton Village Garden Club made to the Crofton Triangle community in 2014 to plant 50 new trees. The environmental impact, as well as the beautifying effect made this project most desirable for the club.
Thank you to Andy's Landscaping for doing a great job planting the last few trees! Led by Project Chair Camille DeVito, members participated in a two-day fall clean up at the Blue Star Memorial Garden located at Crofton Library.
Members removed invasive weeds and tree saplings, cut back the black-eyed Susan, planted ornamental cabbage and mulched the garden. Nancy Percivall collected seed heads from the black-eyed Susan cuttings and the seeds will be used for our April program. Thank you to Camille and her husband Frank, and members Margo Antonelli, Nancy Durose, Denise Frey, Beverly Frye, Cindy Hansen, Littany Hollerbach, Patty More, Lois Nichols, Nancy Percivall, Gail Schulz and Angela Wetzel for helping with the garden clean up. |
