PROGRAM: Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens
Members of the Crofton Village Garden Club had the opportunity to travel by bus to Washington, DC, where they visited Hillwood Estate, Museum, and Gardens, the former home of Marjorie Merriweather Post. Known for her refined taste and lavish lifestyle, Marjorie transformed her estate into a showcase of art, culture, and gardening excellence. Members enjoyed a guided, docent-led tour that took them through the opulent home, filled with remarkable collections of Russian imperial art, French decorative arts, and American furnishings. The gardens, which reflect Marjorie's love for nature, were particularly enchanting, with lush landscapes that include formal gardens, a Japanese garden, and serene woodland areas. In addition to exploring the home and grounds, members were treated to a special exhibit titled The Artistic Table. This exhibit brought together contemporary designers and tastemakers to create modern interpretations of the grand table settings Marjorie was known for. Each display was a unique tribute to Marjorie's exceptional flair for entertaining, blending historical aesthetics with innovative, current trends. The trip was both an educational and enjoyable experience for all who attended.
