PROGRAM: Tawes Garden – Your State in Five Acres Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden is named in honor of Mrs. J. Millard Tawes, a former first lady of Maryland (1959-1967). The five-acre garden represents the State of Maryland's various geographic areas. They include a Western Maryland forest, a streamside environment and an Eastern Shore peninsula. The garden is nestled amid state government office buildings that include the headquarters of the Department of Natural Resources. Bonnie Pavlak, Committee Chair for Friends of Tawes Garden, was the recipient of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland 2018 Presidential Award for her ongoing work at Tawes Garden. Bonnie, along with horticulturist Suzanne Weber, lead us through these gardens with their slide-show presentation and discussion. After the program, members carpooled to Annapolis for a first-hand visit to these gardens. For more information on Tawes Garden, click the button below.
