PROGRAM: Tawes Garden – Your State in Five Acres
The Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden, named in honor of Mrs. J. Millard Tawes, a former first lady of Maryland (1959-1967), spans five acres and represents various geographic areas of the State of Maryland. These areas include a Western Maryland forest, a streamside environment, and an Eastern Shore peninsula. The garden is nestled amid state government office buildings, including the headquarters of the Department of Natural Resources. Bonnie Pavlak, Committee Chair for Friends of Tawes Garden, was honored with the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland 2018 Presidential Award for her ongoing work at the Tawes Garden. Bonnie, along with horticulturist Suzanne Weber, guided us through these beautiful gardens with their slide-show presentation and insightful discussion. After the program, members carpooled to Annapolis for a first-hand visit to experience the gardens. Comments are closed.
