Crofton Village Garden Club is honored to have played a role in several community projects, partnering with local groups to make a meaningful impact.
BLUE STAR MEMORIAL
Crofton Village Garden Club donated a Blue Star Memorial marker in honor of those who have served or are currently serving in the United States armed services. Dedicated in May 2013 at the entrance to Crofton Library, the marker serves as a lasting tribute to the men and women of our community who have defended our nation.
A wreath is placed by the marker on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Christmas to show gratitude and remembrance. Club members maintain the marker and its surrounding area during semi-annual service days at the library.
Funds for the marker and dedication ceremonies were raised through the 2011 Holiday House Tour, with full participation from all club members. This project remains a proud and meaningful contribution by the Club to the community.
CROFTON RAIN GARDEN
Crofton Village Garden Club partnered with other community organizations in 2011 to reduce and mitigate stormwater damage impacting local creeks, streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. This collaborative project redirects stormwater from Crawford Boulevard to a street-side rain garden, preventing runoff from flowing into the stormwater drains along Route 3. By filtering rainwater naturally, the garden helps protect the Chesapeake Bay aquatic ecosystem, benefiting wildlife and water quality.
The Club remains dedicated to promoting Bay-Wise landscaping practices to reduce pollution and runoff. Through internal and external education programs, including information shared on our website, we continue to inspire environmentally responsible gardening within the community.
GOLD STAR MEMORIAL
Crofton Village Garden Club coordinated the Gold Star Memorial project in honor of Crofton's 60th Anniversary, partnering with community organizations and the Greater Crofton Community. Dedicated in the fall of 2024, the Gold Star Memorial serves as a lasting tribute to the families of military service members who lost their lives in service to our nation.
Located on Route 3 near the entrance to the Crofton community, the memorial offers a place of reflection and remembrance. The Club is honored to have played a role in this meaningful project, ensuring that the sacrifices made by Gold Star families will always be remembered.
LINTHICUM WALKS
Crofton Village Garden Club collaborated with other community organizations to maintain the grounds at Linthicum Walks, a historic landmark in Crofton. During the club’s involvement, members focused on preserving the landscape by removing invasive plants, mulching beds, and pruning or replacing plants as needed to restore the grounds.
With the club’s guidance, Linthicum Walks achieved Bay-Wise Certification and became a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. In 2021, the club also helped establish a pollinator garden, which serves as a vital "stepping stone" on the Anne Arundel County Pollinator Pathway, providing food and habitat for pollinators. The Club is proud to have contributed to the restoration and sustainable landscaping of this historic site.
