Crofton Village Garden Club is honored to have played a role in several community projects, partnering with local groups to make a meaningful impact.
BLUE STAR MEMORIAL
Crofton Village Garden Club donated the Blue Star Memorial marker at Crofton Library to honor community members who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. military services. The marker was unveiled and dedicated in May 2013, with funding and support from the 2011 Holiday House Tour. Club members continue to maintain the surrounding garden area during semi-annual service days, ensuring it remains a respectful and meaningful memorial.
CROFTON RAIN GARDEN
Crofton Village Garden Club partnered with other community organizations in 2011 to reduce and mitigate stormwater damage impacting local creeks, streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. This collaborative project redirects stormwater from Crawford Boulevard to a street-side rain garden, preventing runoff from flowing into the stormwater drains along Route 3. By filtering rainwater naturally, the garden helps protect the Chesapeake Bay aquatic ecosystem, benefiting wildlife and water quality.
GOLD STAR MEMORIAL
Crofton Village Garden Club coordinated the Gold Star Memorial project as part of Crofton’s 60th Anniversary. Working with community organizations and the Greater Crofton community, the club planned, installed, and dedicated the memorial in the fall of 2024. Located along Route 3 near the entrance to Crofton, the Gold Star Memorial honors the families of service members who lost their lives in the military. The site serves as a respectful reminder of their sacrifice and the community’s recognition of their service.
LINTHICUM WALKS
Crofton Village Garden Club collaborated with other community organizations to maintain the grounds at Linthicum Walks, a historic landmark in Crofton. Under the club’s guidance, Linthicum Walks achieved Bay-Wise Certification and became a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. In 2021, the club also helped establish a pollinator garden, serving as a vital "stepping stone" on the Anne Arundel County Pollinator Pathway by providing essential food and habitat for pollinators.
MAY BASKETS
Crofton Village Garden Club started the May Baskets project in 2014 to celebrate Crofton’s 50th Anniversary. The event included a community May Basket competition with ribbons for the winners. Since then, members have hung baskets of fresh flowers on their front doors or lamp posts each spring, adding charm and inspiring the community.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS Crofton Village Garden Club initially supported military units deployed overseas by sending care packages during the holiday season. In later years, the club shifted its focus to supporting the local community through monetary donations to the local food bank. This initiative reflected the club's ongoing commitment to service, civic responsibility, and community support.
WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA
Crofton Village Garden Club made donations to support Wreaths Across America and took part in the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, members joined volunteers across the country in honoring fallen service members by placing Remembrance wreaths on their graves and speaking their names aloud as a tribute to their service and sacrifice.
