Congratulations to Crofton Village Garden Club member Nancy Percivall and her husband George, named by the Crofton Civic Association as Citizens of the Year for 2020.
Nancy has been CVGC's Horticulture Chair for the past several years and has shared many informative presentations at our monthly meetings. She is also our Linthicum Walks Project Chair and has dedicated numerous hours to maintaining the grounds of the historic property. Because of her efforts, Linthicum Walks is Bay-Wise Certified and a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. George was instrumental in getting Linthicum Walks accredited as an ArbNet Level 1 Arboretum. Both serve on the board for the Friends of Historic Linthicum Walks. In addition, Nancy is the Gardening Editor for Living in the Triangle magazine and volunteers with the St. Paul's Quilters. George was very active with the Boy Scouts throughout the years with their sons, Bryan and Joe – both became Eagle Scouts. Nancy Percivall, Linthicum Walks Project Chair, and CVGC members have been busy getting the grounds ready for our garden tour. Thank you to the following members for helping this week with weeding, planting and mulching the gardens and trees: Margo Antonelli, Maria-Elena Bodnar, JoAnn Cook, Trish Demers, Denise Frey, Beverly Frye, Nancy Percivall, Marcia Richard, Gail Schulz and Claudia West. Thank you to member Maria Guyer for donating hosta and a special thank you to Nancy's mother, Mary Karrigan, for the many hours she has worked beautifying the grounds for the garden tour.

Linthicum Walks Project Chair Nancy Percivall and TLC (The Linthicum Crew) removed invasive vines from several trees on the historic property. In August 2016 Linthicum Walks became a Level 1 Arboretum. The property has a unique tree collection including many imported trees that were planted in the early 20th century due to the horticultural interest of a former owner. Linthicum Walks is having a Sponsor a Tree fundraiser. For $100 ($90 tax deductible) you can purchase an Arboretum-friendly sign that will include your or your family name, the specie of tree and a fact relating to the tree. CVGC is sponsoring two trees on the property – Red Maple and Dove Tree. If you are interested in sponsoring a tree, please contact Nancy Percivall. Linthicum Walks is having an open house on Earth Day, April 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. if you are interested in touring the arboretum.
In September 2014, Crofton Village Garden Club introduced the Bay-Wise Certification initiative with the goal of enlisting 100 percent member participation in our commitment to actively promote Bay-Wise practices in our own yards and throughout our community. Master Gardeners will work with you using the Bay-Wise Yardstick to evaluate your garden practices. If you are interested in a yard visit, please send a request to the Bay-Wise Committee at getbaywise2012@yahoo.com.
