Project Chair Don Pogue has been tending to the Native Garden located at Crofton Library. The garden is filling in nicely with native ferns, summersweet, and blue false indigo – just to name a few. The Native Garden creates a haven for pollinators like native bees and butterflies. It is also provides an abundance of seeds, berries, and habitat required for our native bird species.
When visiting the library, take a stroll through the Native Garden and enjoy the many native plants. Crofton Village Garden Club members participated in a Garden Crawl where members spent approximately 20 minutes at each garden doing maintenance. The first stop was Crofton Library where members worked on the Blue Star Memorial Garden, Native Garden and Pollinator Garden. Members then traveled to Linthicum Walks, Swann Park, the Village Green Memorial Garden and the Peace Garden located at Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church.
Thank you to Nancy Percivall (Project Chair, Linthicum Walks) for organizing the event and to Frank DeVito (spouse to Camille DeVito, Project Chair, Blue Star Memorial Garden), Claudia West (Project Chair, Swann Park), Lois Nichols, Rosa Johnson, Diane Stovel, Lynn Pollock, Maria-Elena Bodnar (Project Chair, Peace Garden), Don Pogue (Project Chair, Native Garden) and Beverly Frye for participating in the event. Project Chair Camille DeVito and garden club members weeded, planted begonias and mulched the Blue Star Memorial Garden at Crofton Library. Project Chair Don Pogue has spent many months preparing the Native Garden area for planting. Don and garden club members are making great progress with this new club project.
