Project Chair Littany Hollerbach, members Laura Austin and Nancy Percivall, and volunteer Yuki Adams gathered at the Blue Star Memorial Garden for routine upkeep. The group cleaned up the garden by removing spent flowers and trimming back plants, giving it a neat, refreshed appearance. Their efforts help keep the plantings healthy and the space looking its best through the summer months.
The Blue Star Memorial Garden and the Pollinator Garden at the Crofton Community Library are alive with activity this summer, buzzing with bees, butterflies, and other pollinators hard at work. Vibrant blooms of coneflower, yarrow, Joe Pye weed, and black-eyed Susan create a colorful haven that draws in countless winged visitors. These thriving gardens stand as a testament to our commitment to community beautification and environmental stewardship, providing food and shelter for pollinators while adding natural beauty for all to enjoy.
Crofton Village Garden Club Celebrates Earth Day with Violet Planting
For this year’s Earth Day celebration, Crofton Village Garden Club members came together in a collaborative effort to naturalize a bed of violets in the space between the Blue Star Memorial Garden and the Native Garden at the Crofton Community Library. The project was a true club effort, with members donating violets from their own gardens and working side by side to enhance this shared green space. The new violet bed highlights the club’s ongoing dedication to sustainability and eco-friendly gardening practices. It brings early spring color, strengthens pollinator habitat, and forms a natural, beautiful bridge between two of the club’s most cherished garden areas. Special thanks go to all CVGC members who contributed their time, plants, and energy to make this Earth Day project a success. Your generosity and teamwork made it possible. With appreciation to CVGC President Margo Antonelli, Blue Star Memorial Garden Project Chair Littany Hollerbach, Native Garden Project Chair Nancy Percivall and her husband George, Laura Austin, Trish Demers, Nancy Durose, Cindy Hare, Rosa Johnson, and Yuki Adams for their meaningful contributions to this effort. Together, club members continue to cultivate beauty, community, and environmental care—one plant at a time. The Blue Star Memorial Garden got a fresh start to the season thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers who came out for the spring cleanup. It was a beautiful morning—clear, sunny skies and no wind, despite earlier predictions of chilly weather. The atmosphere was relaxed and productive, helped along by a thoughtful playlist from Littany Hollerbach that started with classical piano and eased into softer popular tunes as the morning warmed up. Grasses were cut down, weeds were dug up, and mulch was carefully worked into the cleaned areas. The garden is now in great shape for spring visitors. Many thanks to Project Chair Littany Hollerbach, Lois Nichols, Lauren Toomey, and Trish Demers for their time and effort in keeping this meaningful space looking its best. Photo Credit: Trish Demers
