Crofton Village Garden Club chooses a local charitable organization, military unit deployed overseas, if possible, or any entity within the neighboring Crofton communities needing assistance during the holiday season. Donations are gathered from club members, stores, restaurants, etc., to assist in supplying items as needed and appropriate.
Project Chair Linda Childs announced that this year the Crofton Caring Council has been selected as the recipient of our Operation Christmas donation. The Council is comprised of several churches in the area: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Prince of Peace Presbyterian, St. Paul Lutheran, Community United Methodist and Mid Atlantic Community Church. These churches provide financial relief, food, baby clothes/items, etc., to residents in the Odenton, Millersville, Crownsville, Gambrills and Crofton areas. Because of COVID-19, the need is very great this year. If you would like to send a contribution to the Council, a check can be sent to: Mrs. Sharon Shipley Crofton Caring Council St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church 1800 Seton Way Crofton, MD 21114 Linda Childs, Project Chair for Operation Christmas, held a workshop at Crofton Library where members filled boxes with goodies to be shipped overseas to Afghanistan.
This year we are celebrating a very special Operation Christmas initiative. Member C.J. Salisbury’s son-in-law is stationed in Afghanistan, along with 21 others in his Unit. They are attached to an Air Force Unit consisting of 30 personnel, so a total of 51 soldiers will receive goodies for the holidays. Thank you to CVGC members who gave so generously, to BJ's, Giant Food, and Wegmans for their generous donations, to Outback Steakhouse who donated gift cards for free appetizers and to Mission BBQ who donated koozies and gift cards and shipped BBQ sauce to the Unit. Thank you to Rick Childs and Palmer Salisbury for taking the boxes to UPS and to Linda for her time and effort in obtaining donations and purchasing the items for this meaningful project.
