Project Chair Gail Schulz held a clean-up day at the Pollinator Garden located at Crofton Library. Members weeded and edged the garden and worked on plant identification. Markers were added to the plants as an educational component to demonstrate to community members the importance of native plants to encourage the population of pollinators. The Pollinator Garden is a "stepping stone" on the Anne Arundel County Pollinator Pathway.
Thank you to Margo Antonelli, Linda Childs, Trish Demers, Camille DeVito, Denise Frey, Beverly Frye, Cathy Gallagher (CVGC President), Rosa Johnson, Glenna Kidd, Nancy Percivall, Gail Schulz, Lauren Toomey, and Claudia West for helping with the garden clean-up. Thank you also to Jim MacNicholl (Master Gardener) for his assistance with plant identification. May Baskets honor the time-old tradition which the ancient Celts called “Beltane” — the day halfway between spring and summer that coincides with the return of fertility to the earth. In early times, small baskets of flowers and goodies were left on friends’ door knobs as a sign of kindness and friendship.
May Baskets adorned the homes of CVGC members in celebration of May Day. Sandy Robertson placed her basket on a hook in her front garden, as her front door isn't visible from the street. She added lilies of the valley from her yard and used the pink bow she made during the Bow Making Demonstration at our April meeting. Trish Demers thought someone in the club would be happy to know that their past ribbon efforts are still in use and it has held up in the strong winds. JoAnn Cook used flowers from her yard and her neighbor's. Scroll over the photo and use the play button or arrow buttons located at the top of the picture to view all of the beautiful baskets. Thank you to all members who participated! Front Row: Trish Demers, Angela Wetzel, Project Chair Camille DeVito, Nancy Durose and Diane Smith.
