To promote and preserve the beauty of our community

DEDICATION OF 2019 TIME CAPSULE

5/1/2019

Crofton Village Garden Club members gathered at the Village Green Memorial Garden following our May meeting to dedicate the 50th Anniversary time capsule. CVGC President Cathy Gallagher led the dedication.

A time capsule is something we collect now and leave for future generations to discover and use. It’s designed to offer a glimpse into who we were and the motivations behind our actions. A time capsule serves as an intentional witness to the future—a reflection of our present, not just a legacy.

The "7th generation" principle, taught by Native Americans, reminds us that in every decision, whether personal or governmental, we should consider its impact on our descendants seven generations into the future. This principle encourages us to preserve the beauty of the natural world, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the same pristine skies, fields, and mountains. As we witness the future, we ask for guidance as we forge our path forward.

After a moment of silence to honor our deceased members, everyone joined together to read aloud the following:
Earth, Teach Me
Earth teach me quiet – as the grasses are still with new light.
Earth teach me suffering – as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility – as blossoms are humble with beginning.
Earth teach me caring – as mothers nurture their young.
Earth teach me courage – as the tree that stands alone.
Earth teach me limitation – as the ant that crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom – as the eagle that soars in the sky.
Earth teach me acceptance – as the leaves that die each fall.
Earth teach me renewal – as the seed that rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself – as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness – as dry fields weep with rain.
The Seed Sowing Psalm
Divine Master assist me to be a wise gardener,
who, with great care, will sow only good seeds this day,
those deeds and attitudes that truly will give you glory.
Every word, deed and hidden thought is a seed whose DNA insures
a fruit unfolding to ripe maturity that someday will be
my life-harvest returned to me.
May it be, O Holy One, a harvest of Life. Amen
