The spotted lanternfly is native to China, India, Japan, and Vietnam and was first detected in the United States in 2014 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The non-native invasive insect attacks pines, grapes, apples, and stone fruits. It is spreading to other counties within Pennsylvania and Maryland residents should be on the lookout. If you see this insect, contact the University of Maryland Extension's Home and Garden Information Center to report your sighting.
