PROGRAM: Recycling Right in Anne Arundel County Kelly Mackall, Recycling Project Specialist with the Department of Public Works, spoke to members about how to recycle right in Anne Arundel County. She covered the basics—curbside pick-up, yard waste, hazardous waste—and introduced the latest improvements, including food scrap collection. Following a Q&A session, members watched a brief video showing the inner workings of the recycling center. A recent audit of county recyclables revealed that many residents are still placing incorrect items in their curbside carts and bins. One of the most common mistakes is including plastic bags, wrap, and film, which are not accepted in curbside recycling. These items can be recycled separately if taken clean and dry to designated drop-off bins at County Recycling Centers and participating local retailers. Proper sorting is key to reducing contamination and improving the efficiency of the recycling process.
