Bernice M. Robertson June 7, 1921 – December 22, 2020 Crofton Village Garden Club has lost a beloved member, Bernie Robertson, who played a key role in its founding. After moving to Crofton in 1968, Bernie became friends with Delores Schueneman, and together, they realized they had both served as presidents of garden clubs—Delores in Cincinnati and Bernie in Richmond. The two women, along with a few others, gathered at the country club pool to discuss starting a garden club. On February 12, 1969, they met with a representative from the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland to officially form the Crofton Village Garden Club, marking the beginning of what would become a vibrant and lasting community. Bernie was not only a founding member of CVGC but also an active board member of the Crofton Athletic Council and various civic associations. In 2018, the club honored her legacy by establishing the Bernie Robertson Award, with Bernie herself being the first recipient. Her contributions to floral design earned her numerous awards and citations throughout the Maryland Region. Bernie was dedicated to helping others develop their skills in floral concept and design. In recent years, Bernie resided in Richmond, VA, at Commonwealth Senior Living, where she was beloved by the residents and staff alike. She continued her passion for floral design, offering suggestions and sharing her expertise, while also staying involved as an active member of the residents council and enjoying games with friends. Bernie’s legacy in the Crofton Village Garden Club and her impact on those around her will always be remembered. "As I look back, it was not just all about arranging flowers, making bows, or helping to beautify the community – it was about the friendships I made and laughs we had along the way. I am proud that the club that I and a few gals had the vision for so long ago is still thriving in the community." – Bernie Robertson
