PROGRAM: What Does It Mean to Belong to NGC?

Ronda Goldman, Director of District II of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, Inc., shared updates on several ongoing initiatives from National Garden Clubs, Inc., the world’s largest volunteer gardening organization. Her presentation emphasized the organization’s commitment to environmental stewardship, civic beautification, and the importance of community involvement in gardening-related activities.

Shahla Butler, District II Membership Chair, followed with a valuable discussion on best practices for growing and retaining membership within local garden clubs. She offered practical strategies to keep members engaged and attract new ones, including outreach efforts, mentorship, and hosting events that appeal to a wide range of interests and skill levels.

Jenny Henry, District II Youth Chair, concluded the session with an inspiring message about the importance of educating youth on the role of trees and pollinators in our environment. She encouraged clubs to create programs and opportunities that foster environmental awareness in younger generations, ensuring the future of gardening and conservation efforts.
